PostSubject: (SOLVED) Johna's sliders ARE NOT compatible with the 1.47 patch...maybe?    January 25th 2013, 3:40 am

I was going to post this alongside my last post, but decided it possibly is a 'different' type of problem and others might be experiencing the same thing and need some support.

Problem:

Johna's sliders are having problems being compatible with the 1.47 patch and of course beyond. I just did some slight research on modthesims3 and came across the thread and in the comments many were experiencing either the same problems or very similar problems as I am with the sliders.

I'm also on 1.47. Unfortunately, I'm getting all sorts of glitches in CAS. Sometimes the game crashes randomly even when in regular play.
To verify it was this mod, I removed it. The game worked normally afterwards.
I'm trying out different combinations of the package files, but so far haven't come up with one that's stable.

I can't believe no one has updated/created anew this yet. I mean, some of them aren't useful anymore, but others like the hips, shoulders, butt are invaluable.
) Direct quotes from Johna's thread.

End Quote:

It seems these sliders DO need to be updated! They are not compatible for everyone's game. They will cause your game to crash regularly in the game, CAS and/or cause problems while in CAS alone.

I came across this because I was just trying to determine what some of my game issues could be and this was spot on!

I've NOT located any other creator thus far that has made a compatible hack with Johna's uses yet. If anyone knows of his certain types of sliders, i.e. shoulder width/height, calf adjustment, breast and butt adjustment please post here in this thread so others will know there are other options.

I HATE to lose these sliders as I use them with EVERY SINGLE SIM I CREATE so hopefully someone will take pity and create a new 'updated' set!

Again...it seems Johna's sliders ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH 1.47

I....am...heartbroken... Sad045

....and a bit dramatic too!! rockon laughing

Shocked That's really strange, I have all those Johna sliders in my game and my game is patched to 1.47 and I don't have any problems in CAS watch out *NEW*
Are you sure it's the sliders and not something else what's causing the crashes?? Have you (temporary) removed those sliders and tested your game without the sliders and you had no crashes in CAS anymore??

Did you also check your crashes using the Crash Log Analyzer (DL here), as this tool may also provide help in determining why your game crashes.

It's not crashing it's 'hiccupping'...like it's wants to crash but doesn't go into full crash. It freezes a lot also. I think it works fine for some games, but like mentioned...not every game and mine seems to be one of them. I know these sliders had problems with Pet's, but I believe Jonha tweaked the sliders to be compatible, but I think it may need to be tweaked a tiny bit more for the new patch.

Ugh...I'm sick to death of these constant problems. It takes FOREVER to do anything in CAS and it causing my game to hiccup as well.

But when you take those Johna sliders out, your game works fine then?? No hiccups when you have taken those sliders out??

Sad... Sad... I'm sorry that your game has been so bugged out, Cece. Like Eva, I am patched to date on both my computers, and have had no problems with any of these sliders (or any other sliders for that matter.) The patch didn't technically alter CAS in any way, so I'm wondering if it isn't some other culprit causing these hiccups.

Jonha didn't tweak or re-release the sliders after Pets. He mentioned that he was working on editing certain sliders that became broken (the chest slider, mainly) but he never released these to the public. He confirmed that most of the body sliders worked alright at modest ranges after Pets, and simply discouraged the use of the "broken" sliders. :\

I had to delete my body sliders. I was getting some very strange random sims.

laughing Yeah...but you have to admit sometimes it creates some wicked cool ones!!! bleh I sometimes just scroll through random to see what I can get!! It's a challenge, but fun!

@Ameenah...maybe that's all it is...just 'some' of the sliders are broken. Do you know for sure which ones exactly and I will play around with my game tomorrow to see.

@Eva...I plan on testing out some other theories on this tomorrow...I'm just seriously don't feel like booting it up today. I will keep you posted though! cheese

PostSubject: Re: (SOLVED) Johna's sliders ARE NOT compatible with the 1.47 patch...maybe?    January 26th 2013, 3:25 am

The broken sliders basically caused distortion with the sim's faces and head shape - as if the entire sim was being curved. This happens the most with the chest slider, so I removed that slider from my game. The calf, waist, hip, and thigh sliders have a slightly different effect after Pets - they throw the sim of the center axis if you use them at an extreme, but they're not as "broken" and will not distort the face. I've kept these in my game.

If you look through the pages of comments on the MTS download, you'll also see some pictures and comments about the distortion from some of the body sliders post-Pets.

WhiteRider's neck thickness was also broken by the Pet's Patch, though it's not by Jonha.

Borked sliders are only going to 'cause funny looking sims though - they shouldn't cause your game to lag or crash. I feel like the culprit must be something else. Also, was this weirdness before or after you updated your slider hack for 1.47?

This is unrelated to sliders, but mods that I know ARE broken to date are several of the script mods from Buzzler. They've been pegged as updated for the past few patches - but Clean House, Moar Interactions, and especially the Take-Out Mod have some issues (that will cause lag and CTD). I removed all of these from my game a few patches ago.

Hrmmm. I have some of his sliders in my game (still patched at 1.47 and I have no plans on patching to 1.48 for a bit) and I haven't noticed any distortion or CTD HOWEVER I do have insane lag at the moment. I'll see if removing them does anything. :o

Sliders should never cause CTD, that was just me being off-topic about Buzzler's mod and not Jonha's sliders (sorry for being confusing!). That's good to know they're working fine in your game as well. Smile

My game has been lagging too and I haven't wanted to play it. My sim just stands there some of the time and refuses to execute the commands I give. (Btw, shouting at the screen doesn't work.)

There are a million things that can cause lag - but one of the big ones is generally having too many package files in your mods folder, or too much CC for you system to handle altogether. Are either of you combining the CC you have installed in package form??

I combine package files, but haven't done it in a while. It's time to do it again.

This must be the reason why my toddler had such a funny small head and huge arms and legs.
With CC Magic installed I can easily find the Johna's sliders and put them 'out' temporarily. Btw, is CC Magic known to you all? If not, I really must promote that program.

@ Eden777: Just read about the lag problem you have: CC Magic is the answer to that!!!!!

I've been combining files for a while, but put off doing so for as long as possible. Once you combine them, they're permanent and you can't delete the file if you decide at a later date you don't want it anymore. I have tons of outfits and hair files I'd like to delete, but it would mean deleting the entire package files which contains other files I want, because to my knowledge, you can't un-combine files once they're combined.

I have cc magic and it really doesn't kick butt like it did at first. Now...I DO however have it 'inside' of my mod folder...I wonder if that could be a culprit or cause no problem at all. I didn't put it there...originally it was just on my desktop...go figure that one out. I guess it just walked it's little cc magic buns right over and embedded itself in my Ea folder! pale Shocked

And yep...I kind of figured out screaming at the screen, computer and invisible people in the room did crap for making my game play better. crazy

I just removed Nraas MasterController, Error Trap, Dresser and Overwatch. They were all current versions for my game. The game seems to be running smoother and my sim is doing what I tell him to do. Go figure.

I know about CC Magic - but I'm used to my own (old, haha) way of combining. CC magic just combines packages for you, and I agree that's it's a great application, but the end result is exactly the same as combining packages yourself - so I'm just going to stick to my way of doing it X__X.

If you're combining packages, you just need to keep a back-up of the uncombined packages somewhere outside your packages folder. I just recombine if I've removed or deleted CC from that specific folder. You actually can edit a merged package to remove content. But, I generally combine with S3PE, and then run it through the compressorizer, so I just recreate the package when a lot of content has changed.

I think you're better of just creating a new merged package, but I realize you can't do that if you don't back up the unmerged files.

Nona (from Simlogical) wrote a tutorial about removing files from a combined package here:

^ and ^^ and ^^^ ;)

The good thing from CC magic is that you have pics of you cc. (well sometimes not helas) So that makes it easier to manage and get rid of cc you don't want anymore.
I also did the merging before I had CC magic. That worked too, but no pics and more work to manage. Get rid of cc means merging again and costs a lot of time. That's why I personally prefer CC Magic.
But as they say, do as you like as long as you don't hurt each other Smile

To go back to the thread: easy to find my Johna's sliders and put them of and testing if this works.

Oh, I have pictures of everything, I set my packages to open with TSR Merlin, and it includes a thumbnail and description viewer. Smile I also have some plugins installed that allow me to have thumbnails viewable for all types of files in Explorer.

Don't get me wrong, CC Magic is an amazing program, I'm just used to my ways, so to speak. I probably will switch over to it eventually, just so I can create different collections of CC for different saves more easily, but for general viewing, you can see thumbnails on packages if you set up your files correctly. Smile

^well that's interesting to know.

Please tell me more about how you set the Merlin and about plugins. Always eager to learn. BTW I cannot find Merlin anymore. Tried to find it after pc breakdown to install again, but nope.... Sad... I used Merlin long ago and found it useful because of the pics. As CC Magic has sometimes issues with the pics I wanted to use Merlin to identify the rest.

Not quitting CC Magic though. F.e. because of the different configurations possible you can make a 'zero custom content' configuration. Do the patching you need, run the game through CC Magic with the Zero custom content configuration, and close down. After that you change the configuration and tada!!!! the game works like sunshine.. Well of course you need to update the different hacks, that remains unchanged.

Oké, it must be clear now that I'm a huge fan of CC Magic. Wrote a lot of tuts on my blog about it. But as I said before: different roads lead to Rome. hiho

@SellaSu: CC Magic is a program from Grant Hess. He offers great support at his site here. You can download at MTS.

What it does is:
  • unpacking rarfiles for you (just put all downloads in C:\Users\\Documents\Electronic Arts\De Sims 3\Downloads);
  • merging files to prevent lagging;
  • offering the possibility to make sets of downloads for different gameplays (like medieval, futuristic);
  • making collections outside the game;
  • managing your custom content.

I don't think I forgot something in this list, but I didn't check his site.
It works really well if you have tons of downloads (like me laughing )

I could write some more about this, if you like me to. Just let me know.
