As you all see in the title.... (Pc won't start, mobo is bleeping, meaning faulty memory or faulty motherboard) Sad045  Smiley-angry 1  My WIP - the baby poses and erotic poses.... probably all gone. And maybe (just a tiny chance I can restore them) So yeah... sigh...

Scraping my savings, maybe building a new pc together with my son. Husband is declaring me nuts. Why playing that ridiculous game (the Sims 3) in the first place? It costs a lot of money (your second pc broke because of that :cussing:*new* game) etc. etc. You are hooked (hmm probably yes), can't you do anything else in which you can use your creativity... like photoshop or so?

Well, in a way he is right, it costed me 2 pc's (a new one for the Sims 2, dito for the the Sims 3), lots of pc trouble, time and bad temper, but .... I like the game, I hate it also.

Sorry for bothering you, I'm really frustrated now :cussing:*new* and bigcry bigcry bigcry

Hi franniewee,
I'm just gonna put my two cents in here, not that it's any of my business.

First off, I'm really sorry about your computer.  These dam things cost so much money and they basically only work for a year or so before they're obsolete (maybe 3 years if you get a good one)

And yup, Sims 2 ruined my first computer and now I'm on my second computer with The Sims 3!  This one has a terabyte (?) of space but I don't think it has a good processor because my game is pretty slow but at least I never get error 12 anymore (knock on wood)

And my husband said the same thing.  Why are you playing such a stupid game?  Why can't you play a game for x-box?

I don't have any desire to play an x-box game.  I WANT TO PLAY THE SIMS!

Just sayin'  This is what I went through last May, (a year ago last May)

Good luck dear consoling

Thanks MySims, it helps to know that there more nuts addicted to the Sims, having husbands compelling them to play something else.... they just don't understand and I cannot explain why the game attracts me so.
But out of mere curiousity I'm going to do some testing on the memory etc and I'm going to ask some Dutch forum (I'm Dutch yes) if I can use some components of my old pc to build a new (better tease) one. Seeing the prices some of those guys (always guys ;) ) have for building a gaming pc gives me the creeps. Guess I have to rob a bank or so. Anyway, thanks for your loving support.

I feel your pain. My computer has been schizophrenic. It either won't start and I just get a black screen, or it boots up okay and randomly freezes and the screen goes white. I suspect I need a new graphics card. Needless to say, I haven't been able to play the sims.

Hello...I'm assuming this is the Pc emergency thread...unknown

So as many of you know I have been experiencing severe computer problems as well. I get the blue screen, crash to desktop or total crash and have to reboot. It runs so hot sometimes and this is with a cooling tablet and a fan blowing directly on it.

I feel like I'm rushing around when I get on the site because I fear it's going to quit mid ANYTHING and I will have to start all over again.

Serious pain in the butt!:It__s_Outta_Here:*n

And I feel your pain on the constant questions of 'why' do I play the Sims. Because I want too...period...end of discussion...next question as long as it's not Sim related. I've got the 'you should be using this time and use your creativity'...doh'...I'm sorry...I was sure I was a grown damn woman!!unknown  I've seen the eyes roll when I may 'slip' and mention the Sims and have learned to basically just deal with it on my own.

I refuse to let others take away my joy...even Ea and their seriously glitchy game!!humana humana humana

I hope you get it worked out hun...I've been browsing but geez...the prices are so freaking high for what I want/need. This is the reason I haven't been able to get on as much lately and it's killing me. And I just about faint when I think of the possibility of it quiting and I can't get on site. What do I do...shut the forum down... That would kill me.

I have a Gateway zx4300, which is one of those all-in-one computers. Basically a big laptop and like a laptop it has overheating problems. Right now it has this serious white screen problem and sometimes I can get rid of it by doing ctrl-alt-del+enter. Sometimes. I don't want to buy a new computer right now and was hoping this one would hold out until TS4 next year. I really want to buy Into the Future, which is supposed to be the last EP for TS3. I don't think my computer is going to make it though. When I get the time I'm going to take the back off and clean it and hope it will help the overheating problem.

Yeah...I feel you, I've just decided to not even purchase the future ep because it would just sit there. There is NO way I'd even try to install it at this point.

@Cece & Eden, oké, you just made my day.. hiho I laughed my butt of. (Husbands are all the same). Maybe laughter with a hint of pain, because actually this isn't funny at all... I think you get what I mean.

Although the Sims community is quite big, when you talk to the 'big' guys playing the serious stuff - no not that stupid 'girly' stuff like the Sims, they just laugh you in the face. And so the advice you get is not adequate.

Exactly 4 years ago I bought a new pc (tower) that was capable handling the game. I thought i bought wisely, a mixture of ready to take with more RAM, better graphics card and electric supply. But now I found out that my motherboard was an older type (DDR2). Reading back my blog and so I noticed having encountered so many problems with this pc the last year. I lost my d-partition 3 times and the 3rd time I decided to buy an SSD to be the C and my old drive to be the D drive. Anyway, costed a lot of money.

And now a faulty memory and or faulty motherboard..... when money was no issue I would buy/build a new pc. (= my son would build it) If I can use some of the 'old' parts, it would reduce the price a bit but needles to say 650 Euro is a lot of money, actually meant for other 'domestic accidents' (what if my husband pointed out to me, the washingmachine breaks down? A nightmare I don't want to spend any thoughts on).

So, can it be repaired? Back to testing: memtest86+ gives a fault. Ahum ..meaning .. (you beat me????) Took a pic with my camera and will ask again at the forum. I guess I have to open the case and grab out one of the mem sticks, run memtest86+ again. (this will take the whole night!!) Oké? Put back the other mem stick, run the test to be sure....  Ohh shoot signs *NEW* lots facepalm

I was looking around the web and came across a post that recommended a computer repair service on ebay. They're not close to my home as I live in California, but I'm considering them since they don't charge too much. Here's the link if anyone is interested:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motherboard-Repair-Services-Gateway-Touchsmart-ZX4300-MBGAW06001-MB-GAW06-001-/290951576953

I also posted a free ad on Craigslist under "Gigs" stating what my problem is and can someone help me with a cheap repair. Beats buying a new computer.

So I caved and opened an account with Dell and bought a new Alienware computer--they've come down in price. I know I'm going to have to buy one anyway, so might as well bite the bullet.

@Eden: so this means you can hit the road and make more gorgeous sim males..Please do (but Embarassed  I envy you so. )

Right now I'm in a dispute with my hubbie to either fix the old pc or scrape my savings, wait another month or maybe two and build a new pc, with some 'newer' parts of my old one. Needless to say I opt the second solution. haha to be continued.......

I think you all need a better cooling system, factory standard is not enough. since from what I read here nobody talk about 3rd party cooling system, what I mean is that big aluminum fins and fans to cool your processor, aluminum heat spreader to clip on your ram to dissipate the heat, and a good case with a good airflow from the front panel to the back and top. it won't be quiet unless you use water cooling, but the is price to pay for gaming.

and also don't install and play your game from an external hard drive it will cook your external drive in short time.

secondly a good power supply, get one that passes 80+ standard, so no dropping when used at full load, and also a voltage stabilizer if your electricity has fluctuation.

Thank you. I haven't been inspired to make any male sims for a few months since Cade (my avi), and my computer has been a problem. Working in CAS has been difficult (and now impossible).  But when I get my new comp, who knows. I just don't want them to start looking like each other.

@Navetsea: humana haha you'r almost talking new pc here. But what you state makes sense. In my case I will not invest that kind of money to a 4 year old pc. Maybe - if I only have to replace 1 memory stick, I will stick to my old pc hoping it will last until Sims 4 will come out and then buying a new pc... as was suggested at the MTS forum were I asked to look at my 'shopping' list.

For everybody else: at MTS Callistra made a series of articles about buying/composing a pc fit for playing the sims 3. Although the components are all old - article is from 2009 - the overall content is very usefull. You can find it here.

So wish me luck, I'm gonna open the case, remove a mem stick and do some testing (again).

a good computer case will last for several internal upgrades, as long as you don't get bored by how it looks Smile so it is a one time investment, so better pick one with enough room, thick sturdy construction, timeless design, and painted interior so it won't be rusty or wobbly after a short while

the same with cooler most of them are universal or come with universal brackets to mount on different systems mine is Cooler Master H212+ from few years back, I think it was around $30 when converted in dollar, and then some 12cm fans blowing from the lower front through the hard drive cage, and sucking at the top and back. I think a loose fans from Cooler Master or Gellid, etc is around $10 each.

when a PC case comes packed with a power supply unit, it is mostly always a bad case and bad power supply in general.

I will keep that in mind IF I'm gonna buy/build a new pc. But well, old problem.... money, short of. Repairing this pc will at least cost me 200 euro. Investigating without repairing will be 60-80 euro. And I don't know if this is worth it. ...
Today I removed one of the RAM units, would run the memtest. but at start up mobo was continiously giving short beeps. (oh shit!) and nothing to see on the monitor. (more shit) CPU? Motherboard? RAM? Or maybe 2 or 3 faulty components. Someone at MTS stated NOT to buy a new pc, fixing this one. Wait till Sims 4 is comming out. (I don't know if I will buy Sims 4, I was not all that impressed by what I saw). First I thought this was a smart thing to do. But now I have those terrible urges to throw the bitch out of the window or smash it with a hammer badputer

KK...I have NO idea how this got over to your section!! I'm quite sure when I last posted it was in General 'real life' discussion. Oh well...I moved it! Lol!!

Nav...I'm on a laptop and even then I use a cooling pad and an external fan that plugs into the usb port. It runs pretty good, but sometimes seems to still run pretty hot! Ugh.... That, on top of the other numerous problems it has...it's just very very sick...Sad...

Eden...I will trade you my 3 year old Dell for your brand new Alienware!!Big smile  I think it sounds like a great deal!!! Sooo...all we need to do is make shipping arrangements right...?humana humana humana

And I feel you on making sims...I just want to find out what the heck is wrong with my freaking skin so I can make a decent male sim that I can be proud of!!:zelfmoord:*new*  Okay...I've vented...thanks all for listening...I'm sorry for yelling in the room!! Lol!!

what all of you need to do is what i do...i save my save and mods and such on a flash drive...64GB size
so it all fits...i then at least every 6 months do a complete sys restore on my computers..both...i then reinstall the game and everything i need on the computers...this takes about two days total to do all this and get the computers to be back to what they were program wise installed...but its so worth it...they run better this way

humana There always seems to be computer problems when we don't need them. :/ I think that the way The Sims 3 game engine was set up gives us all these problems we have. Especially as things advanced with newer expansions. Hopefully TS4 won't be this way.

Hoerree for Eden!
@ Dachs: I hear a really organized person here. It sounds like a smart thing to do really (like making regular backups of the whole content of your pc data) But I'm a not at all organized person. I can make plans etc. but stick to them is a complete different story. And 2 days of work is much, but then again restoring all pc contents etc. costs also a lot of work.

I'm just chomping at the bit waiting for my new computer to arrive tomorrow. I just want to play the game again and maybe make a few sims. I'll have to make due playing Plants vs Zombies 2 on my iPad in the meantime. Fun game, but of course since EA is involved, they've made it so you have to spend money to advance. NOT cool. BTW, if you're in the market for a gaming computer, the Alienware base model starts at $699 US, which has 6 mgs of ram. I maxed mine out at 12, so ill be curious to see how it plays TS3 at high settings with tons of cc. I'll let you know.

So I got my new gaming computer a little over a week ago. It runs great and plays the sims great...for about 5 minutes, right before it crashes to the desktop.  I've tried everything, playing with cc, without, dealing with DEP issues, lowering game quality, you name it. The damn thing crashes.  All other programs run fine, but NOT the damn sims.   :zelfmoord:*new*

UPDATE: I think I may have found the problem. I hope anyway. In one of my many Google searches to find the solution, I found a posting on MTS by someone who had the same exact problem as I have, i.e., crashing, freezing, error 12s, with his Alienware computer (diff model). He said you have to edit your Nvidia Control Panel program settings and tell it the Sims 3 should use the Nvidia High Performance graphics setting instead of the global setting for an integrated card. I had to add the Sims to the list since it wasn't there. But I've been playing my game and NO crashing. The resolution is much crisper also and I noticed the game reset itself to the highest settings.    rave

If anyone has a similar problem, this is the post:
