i have like no room on my c drive thanks to my sims game. i sometimes think my computer is going to explode LOL


anyone have this issue.

my computer is about 3yrs old(i am 23,got it when i was 21)
i tried putting my sims 3 game on an external drive,you cant due do like copy right infringement(meaning that they think your going to copy the hole game and sell it to others)

i just get so annoyed with it and wondered if anyone else had this problem and wanted to vent along with me haha

Hey, Stevie, you actually can back-up your install files. I actually have my game/ep/sp install files backed up on my external hard drive.

But I know what you mean about the game taking up space. In my case, my hard drive is fine, but this laptop that I use for the game is not really capable of running it. It's only got 4 GB of ram - and it seems like I haven't been able to actually play smoothly since I installed Pets. For the past few months I have just used the game to make sims.

You can probably play from an external drive, if you've set it up a certain way, but this might be confusing if you've never done it before.

no i am good but i have a 1 terabyte hard drive.. Which is equal to 1000GB so yeah i could probably place a whole lot more but i do tend to keep my mods/packages folder down...i try to stay under 400 items in there.

Stevie, what are your other computer's specs? Maybe you can just upgrade your hard drive if everything else is ok. Your processor will definitely also impact the speed of your game.

If you need to save space, I would move any thing you don't need to an external drive (like pictures, and music). Check to see if you have any programs you don't really need on your PC installed. A PC out of the box has a TON of bloatware. When I get a new computer, I spend at least a few hours just wiping the hard drive of all the "junk" that comes pre-installed. Getting rid of this stuff can help speed up your computer.

The thing is that the size of your hard drive doesn't have much to do with how fast your game runs. Obviously, you need more space for more files and to install programs and such, but what's important when you're running any program is the amount of active memory the game can access. So, you could have a TON of hard drive space, but if you have a crappy processor, then you're still not going to be able to run your game that fast.

Also, I'm guessing you have Windows. If you don't mind doing it, setting it back to the classic interface will save you a lot of memory. Any aero theme just eats your computer's resources.

something is up with the exteral hard drive.
had bugs in it for something because i gave it to my dad to use and it tried to mess up his hole computer.

i dont know the specs on it...would have to look it up

You have got some great advice!! Also try compressing some of your sim files, that will free up some of your space also. I also put a lot of sim stuffz on my external as well as pictures and other odds and ends. Even movies...it just saves space. If you do have lag, you are probably on serious cc overload but that can be easily fixable. Maybe even take out what you are not using right now, save it on your external just in case you want to pull something out again and that will save space as well.

On your computer as a whole just delete delete delete old files, temp files and anything else of no use, then compress the remaining files and that will clean up more space for you!! I have my comp set on auto compress once a week!! It just keeps your comp tidier!

Also wanted to add....another thing I do is clean out my saved games. I save the old ones on my external of course but I only leave the latest save game in the folder. The only thing the saves does is just repeat the previous while adding on the latest game play. So you are not losing anything!! Also, don't forget piccies!! They can take up space as well...I go through every so often and then clean out the pic folder and save to external. I only keep the most recent sim(s) I'm working on in game.

I still have over 850GB of free space left on my computer....=) Makes you sick doesn't it?

Dachs is just boasting... I would like to upgrade my computer just so I could have more than she does.

I have about 300GB altogether (Wanna swap hard drives Dach? :D :D lol) but I have them split into 2 seperate drives. One has just windows on, the other is where I install all my games, etc. Found this reaaaally helps with keeping my pc running smoooth :D (I'm not 100% sure on how to do it, would have to ask my techy bf lol >.>)

Jess is right, having a separate boot drive is really helpful. It's especially helpful if one of those drives is a SSD, but those are quite expensive.
