This doesn't happen every time I play, but it's happened often enough that it's starting to tick me off. My game will actually completely freeze up right before it crashes. I ran the Crash Log Analyzer (CLA) and I keep getting this message:

I'm sorry if I sound like an idiot, but I'm completely clueless.

when i start my game , i avoid using the launcher so as not to generate tmp files and because the launcher is messed up due to all that for me. so i have a shortcut to the game on my desktop to the game application .
maybe you need to create a new shortcut?i would try that first. before anything else

I know this is fixable! I've seen this before, now to dig around and see if I can find it again. If I'm not mistaken, it's a easy fix. Fingers crossed I can find this for ya!!

this what i did for my game , one must use the last sim game expansion or stuff pack installed exe though. that not hard to fig out . if it dont work , try another one till u get the right one. it whatever the game show when starting up after the little film run starting the game , that the game version to pick ,for some that will mean island paradise ex. this what i seen in the thread in the very last thread

Basically i went to "C/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 Generations/Game/Bin" and right clicked "TS3EP04.exe" and selected "Send to Desktop" (which creates a shortcut) and used that to launch the game rather that the one the installation creates for you.

I might try resetting the game to factory settings without uninstalling (Crinrict's method). I'm in game right now...fingers crossed...no problems yet. I ran my CCleaner and found a few errors. I hate to be a pest, but I've been fighting this for a while now.  

I do know that Island paradise is very buggy and most cannot play that world...try removing most of your mods...i found this to be a huge help....even my graphics mod has to go when i go into gameplay which sucks because i use to play with it...also be sure you are deleting all .tmp files from dccashe and be sure you are bypassing the launcher...you do not want it to recreate those before your game starts up...anything you install through the launcher you must go back and delete all the .tmp files in dccashe...really it sucks big time...be sure to bypass the launcher when playing your game...go into your bin folder in the ep you are playing and send the application as a shortcut...use that to start your game not your launcher...or the dccashe then ends up being double in size and your game cannot handle the overload of the huge file and will crash every single time.

Wow, I didn't know this! and you are right...IP is just a part of my game, I can't play the actual Island! Truly sucks!!!
