Alright, as many of you may already know, I am a proud gun owner.

I have been watching TV and people have been talking about making it against the law to carry at political events.

Let me explain why this is the most ridiculous thought.

Say you're a crazy person who happens to own a gun. You stop at walmart to pick up some ammo and head on over to a political event where you plan to BREAK THE LAW and attempt to murder someone. What on earth makes anyone think that this dedicated murderer would stop and think "oh wait, it's against the law to carry a gun at a political event, I guess I should turn around and go home"?

What are your thoughts on guns, the second amendment and the recent shooting?

Oh wow! My thoughts on guns, it seems like they more than likely end up in the wrong hands. Now on personal gun ownership...I say let it be, if someone wants to own a gun let them own one however...let's be a little more cautious to whom we allow to own them.

Nothing but straight up tragedy is how I describe this incident. I watched Dateline Sunday and just went through so many different emotions that I didn't think was humanly possible.

Sadly...I feel it's not anywhere near over...I think this is just the beginning of a long war on a more personal level.

Personally I'm against guns ownership licenses. Its ownership should be restricted to law/military forces.

Realities are so different in each corner of the world... that I can't sustain a valid argument.

The hability to violence is within the human behaviour, a gun, a knife, a baseball bat... anything goes... if we are violent human beings.

First time I tried a firearm was when I did my military service. I felt this strange power in my hand that I was not confortable with. I was taught to use guns and respect guns. Having guns at home raises the common question that is what if the guns gets handled by someone that doesn't know how to handle it, its dangers, etc, etc...

I don't know how difficult it is to get a gun legally in the USA. How is it?

Pretty much innocent until proven guilty is how everything works. Meaning anyone can own a gun.

The problem with taking guns away from the public is the fact that criminals will always find a way either through the black market or whatever to get a hold of guns and then we (The innocent) are powerless to do anything about it because we actually follow the law.

This means home invasions, more murder, more death.

In my opinion taking guns away would do more harm than good. It would leave us innocent unprotected and most likely start riots because of all the pro gun people.

What happened was a tragedy and it's sad that this one man is giving the rest of us a bad name.

I've seen people on TV saying people only own guns to kill when that isn't the truth. It saddens me that people would see me on the same level as a murderer merely because I own a gun.

I think its awful that all people see on tv or hear on the radio is how someone was murdered by a gun and never how a family was protected by one. The responsible gun owners never get credit they mostly get bashed on because of a recent shooting or a recent murder. The reason we don't get enough credit is because we follow the law. All you see on the news is bad, you rarely see the good.

But unfortunately you will find the bad egg that will go off on some wild killing spree and most people are helpless to stop it.

Very well said Evie! It's like a catch 22 type of situation when it comes to personal gun ownership.

Well I believe it's not the guns that are the problems but the people's mentality that own them and use them for things other than self protection. Here in the UK it's illegal to own a weapon of any kind and is an arrestable offence, not that it stops gun crime from happening.

But then even owning one for self protection can get you in trouble....a couple of years ago a farmer who was 67 and living on his own was broken into by 2 teenagers, scared he used his shot gun to scare them away....one of the boys was caught by a bullet (not serious) and the farmer was arrested for attempted murder while the robbers got away and he was only protecting himself and his farm.

Now on the other hand owning something for self protection might not be a bad idea as the police here are a laughing stock...my sister lives in a high crime rate area and it's noted for drug dealers and all kinds of things...one night someone attempted to break into her apartment when she was home alone....she called the police and they arrived......a week later, she could have been killed! If it weren't for the dog in the apartment next to her disturbing the guy I dread to think what would have happened.

Guns in the right hands or should that be mind and used for self protection (not fun, hunting or fear) are no more harmful than a car, bus or alcohol but put them in the wrong hands and all of these things become killers. In my opinion there should be strickter laws against gun ownership and maybe something like a course has to be taken or something like that.......mind you like Evie said if that persons already going to commit a crime like killing someone then I highly doubt they'd stop because the policeman says they can't carry a gun.

Now onto the shooting in Arizona...well I'm thoroughly saddened by it, it was a huge tragedy and devestation Sad... the taking of any life is.....these sick people that go out and take lives in the name of politics, religion and dominance should get the same treatment back...in my mind if you take a life you get life......not like here in the UK criminals don't care because we practically pay them to commit crimes. I have no idea what jails are like anywhere else in the world or the USA but here they get tv's, games consoles and young offenders are seperated from the older guys and sometimes even get holidays with their families....plus this year our wonderful new government (NOT) have released a lot of criminals because they say the prisons are too packed and it's costing too much...and to top that off they've cut a lot of police jobs.....so less police, more criminals....maybe a gun isn't such a bad idea after all.

Guns are never a problem. Its the person behind it and no matter what laws are passed guns will always be available to anyone. Its such a tragity when a person looses their life to somone who has no respect for life at all. Was there signs of this young man being disturbed or was it a guy growing up with no respect ofr himself or others. I say its no respect for anyone or no regaurds for anyone. Could i kill somebody? Vey doubtful but in the event that somebody wants to hurt my family well I think the choice is easy to make. My main thoughts hang toward that little 9 year old girl who got up on a Saturday morning headed to the mall with her family and never walked out again. I reflect on the fact what if it would ben one of my Grandchildren. All I got to say is mercy on that mans soul cause if it hd been one of mine there wouldnt be a trial!
