PostSubject: Need a little hand   April 11th 2012, 5:00 pm

Ok so, here's the deal.
For a long time, ive been thinking about opening my own blog and sharing the sims i make, i just love making sims!
But, theres two points:
I get mixed things, either i download them, either sometimes i get CC from downloading other sims (wich is more rare but sometimes.....)

Now, usually ppl who create and share sims, list all the CC in them, and i have NO CLUE how im gonna keep track of the CC..

I mean, ill create a sim in CAS , use the stuff i have in my list and so on.. But jeez, from the stuff i already have, how am i gonna figure out "oh this hair is from anubis " or "this hair is from newsea" or whatnot.. Its not like it says IN-GAME the hair name and creator i believe?

It's hard tracking down CC I know, it always takes me loads of time LOL Big smile
Here's what I do and what definitely helps is "restricting" myself to downloading (and using) a limited amount of creators (what I call my "preferred creators"). This helps tracking me down the CC I've used, as there are "limited places" to look for the CC used.
Besides that I have quite a good memory, that helps at well, but that's no real guideline, LOL ;)

^ I agree with Eva's comments.

In general, it also helps to keep your CC organized. It can seem like a pain, but honestly, it makes a lot of things easier in the long run. It'll be easier to share sims, but it's also easier to figure out if you have bad CC, if you want to remove something quickly you'll know where to look, if you loose something, you'll know where you can easily find it again.

I keep my un-merged CC in folders like this:

This is an example of how I've renamed my files (for make-up):

[Category]-CreatorName-ItemName

When you have a lot of CC, you'll probably end up merging your packages, because this can seriously reduce lag. In order to merge files, you also have to keep up a certain level of organization.

I used to have a serious problem identifying eyebrows - I was able to track down all my other CC, but I could not for the life of me identify eyebrows by the thumbnail. If you've merged eyebrows into one package, any custom thumbnails won't show up (not that most eyebrows have them to begin with, but I learned this when I started creating my own custom thumbnails for them...).

I'm going to quote Eva on this, because she had a great idea:

I now use sims3pack files for all the makeup and eyebrows when installing this to my game. When I have finished a simmeh, I save it (sim-file) and share (save) it (sims3pack-file).
When identifying the makeup and eyebrows I "split" this sim-sims3pack-file with the Sims3pack Multi-Extracter (here), so this file is split up in separate packages, after that I checkout the (separate) package files by opening them with Postal (here). When looking into the separate packages files, you have to check the Package Manifest (in Long Name) and look through that. Most of the times when scrolling (to the right) through that, it tells you the name of the CC, as well as the creator.

This might seem complicated at first, but once you tried it a couple of times, it's quite easy to use and should identify help identifying CC ;)

You can also view this "long name" in S3PE, which is what I use for most everything.

I have literally 100% of my CC as package files. When I "split the package" with the S3 Multi-Extractor, I was left with one package file. I was still able to open up this package in S3PE or Postal.

I found out that a lot of items weren't named by the creator, and only had a hexID (a long string of numbers and letters) or the name of the base game creation the item was cloned from. Shyne names all of her stuff though, because she is awesome.

So, I went back into my CC Make-Up folder, and one by one corrected the ID/Name of the CASP for every item.

Now, whenever I download make-up, I check to see if the CASP is named correctly and correct it before adding it into my CC folder.

Even if they show up in game without a thumbnail, when I use Eva's method, I'll get a nice list of all the items I used.

holy crap LOL
but i have stuff downaloded for ages, i mean months or maybe even .. an year... it's impossible for me right now track down wich .package belongs to what outfit, or eyebrows, or eyes..

I mean sure, in the sims launcher its easier to track if its a sims3package, cause you actually see the thumbnail as you see in-game, but .packages? oh lord.

you think ppl would be pissed if i made the sims without the CC list? i wanted to share them anyway INCLUDING the CC shared aswell..... :x

Well, I mean, in the end it is up to you. Not everyone documents every little thing when they share sims, because it definitely is a pain in the butt tracking things down. I wholeheartedly agree with you. I feel like I spend half my time organizing my game to the point of bordering on obsessive, haha.

However, each creator has their own "policies" on using their stuff - some don't mind, but many appreciate it if you credit them.

I would make sure to credit the creators whose CC you have used, although it's OK if you don't know which specific item you have on your sim.

I try my best to provide a list/link of everything, so someone downloading the sim can achieve the exact same look in their game, but I realize this is really time consuming....this is probably why I don't share sims as often as I would like to.

Yup, sounds reasonable, well instead of crediting them on a CC list every post, maybe i just make a blog where i have the links to the creators i mostly use, on the side bar, that way its always there no matter what. what u guys think?

What a cute name! <3

Your under construction image is awesome. ;)

It would be nice if the widget text lined up with the cute lines on the notebook paper/clipboards in the background image. You'll have to edit the width and margins and the line-height of the text to get it to line up perfectly.

thank you for the compliements ^^

Ameenah: How would i edit the widgets tho? to they appear in the html when editing the layout?
Might be hard tho, since the lines are inserted onto the widgets by the widget itself D:

You'll have to edit in advanced/HTML mode and change values in the stylesheet. Every section of text in the sidebar is assigned both a class and ID, those classes and IDs are called up in the stylesheet.

To get it to line up you'll have to tweak the "width" "margin" and "padding" values of the relevant class/ID in the stylesheet.

It's probably too complicated if you're not familiar with CSS or HTML, and I don't want you to mess up your template because it does look nice. But it was just a suggestion, everything is in generally the right place so text-alignment is a minor thing. Smile

Actually, scratch that, the image being used for the notebook paper has uneven spacing, the lines aren't the same value apart throughout, so it'll be impossible to vertically get it to line-up without tweaking the background. It looks very cute and you've done a nice job so far, I'm excited to see your posts when it's active.

Smile For some reason, lining up things seems to be the mostttt annoying thing when making a website. Especially when you're cross-checking in a couple of different web browsers (Thankfully, things are getting a bit easier recently.)
