I must say that I am really proud of all of you this round! Everyone's pictures and poems were excellent! Great job everyone!

Just a note....there are several reasons why I included the poetry bit in these last assignments... One, being that poetry is a huge part of the gothic culture, and this comp just wouldn't be true if I didn't include it. And two, I think that these stages are incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to convey in just a picture alone, so the poetry is there to help with that. So, for those of you who are worried that their picture doesn't convey the stage properly, don't worry about it, that's really the poems job. The should picture should visualise the poem, and thereby the stage.....if you catch my drift.

Assignment Six

The Seven Stages of Grief


-Stage Two: Guilt-


In these last assignments, you will be required to turn in a picture and corresponding(meaning explaining the picture) gothic poem that represents each one of the seven stages of grief. Now, I'm not going completely along with the list of stages...I've picked and chosen the ones that I feel will work the best for this competition. Also, even though these assignments coincide, your pictures don't have too. I'd like to keep these pretty open, but one guideline is that I don't want any cutesy-pie pictures! I would prefer it if you'd stay on the serious side for these last assignments, since grief is a serious thing! Make it your goal to make people cry!

Anywho!! So, here's stage two: guilt! Each contestant will be required to submit a photo and corresponding poem that represent guilt. Again, this is wide open, but try to keep it serious. Have fun and be creative!

-About the Poetry-

To make it a little easier, I don't care if you write the poetry yourself, or if you use someone elses, just give credit to the original author please!

I suggest you look up gothic poetry online for inspiration and to really get the idea of what it is.

Also, here's a Gothic Poem Generator if you're having trouble....also if you want a good laugh...


-Rules-

1. Please only post ONE picture.

2. No copying!

3. Editing is allowed, but PLEASE keep it to a MINIMUM!! Really, the only editing allowed is stuff like cropping, lighting, stuff like making the pic black and white or sepia...stuff that anyone can do with a basic program. Basically, anything that changes the tone/atmosphere of the pic is ok. Also, if there's something like a bald spot that some of the CC hair has at certain angles, then you can fill it in. But that's it! As for editing that's not allowed is stuff like adding/transposing backgrounds or objects. Basically, if it's not in your game or can't be done in your game, then it shouldn't be in your picture! (CC is considered part of your game, so it's ok, duh. lol) This competition is designed to push the limits of your creativity, so use it!

4. No changing models. You must use the one you entered! You can, however, change her hair, clothes, makeup, traits, everything but her face/body(including skintone).

New!(for the seven stages of grief only) You are allowed to change your model's face to look more sad (in CAS). I know sometimes it's difficult to get a good picture when you're model looks too happy.

5. Other sims are allowed in the picture, just make sure your sim is the main focus.

6. Remember to keep it Gothic!


Breaking the rules may lead to elimination. You have been warned!
I've decided to not disqualify anyone, just eliminate them, when they have broken the rules...unless someone drops out or doesn't show, then they will just have the lowest score. With the rate that people have dropped out, it seems unfair to disqualify people.

Woo-Hoo. I think i finally got this Goth thing down. Now carrying it on through the next assignment will be a challenge. But I've got high hopes! LoL. So usually when someone is going through the stages of grief they are grieving over the same general thing, an addiction, loss of a loved one etc. Do we need to stick with the original idea or can we switch? and if we don't switch will it be considered less creative? When you posted that this was going to be the theme for the next few assignments I thought I would stick with addiction because that's what I know.

The assignments coincide, but your pictures don't have to. Each stage can be about something completely different if you want. ;)

And each stage doesn't necessarily have to be about the loss of someone. Like last stage, someone did a ghost denying the fact that she was dead, and another did a girl that was denied the one she loved, who was living. So, it could be about anything, really, just as long as it conveys the stage.

I must say: I love the poetry part of this competition. I've always been a poetry admirer, whether reading it or listening to it through music. I never thought I could actually write it myself until I tried it with assignment 5. Although the subject matter was dark, I found it is a great emotional release and creative outlet. I really love writing poetry now (thanks Akasha! ).

Now on to guilt *runs off to write another poem*

I wrote this poem, kind of drew from personal experience.

Your life taken in one selfish act.
You were pushed into an abyss
of heart crushing sadness.
Could i have helped your trampled little soul?
Helped your tormented heart
from being ripped appart.
Kept you close and protected.
No!
I just watched, helplessly.
Your life torn from you
in one fearful night.
His cold wounding sting
destroying your innocence.
I should have reached for you,
Then your endless sorrow
might have parted you.
I'm sorry I couldn't have protected you
from his savage sickness.
Now I watch you guilty that I can not save you
from your own savage sickness.
Then your innocense wouldn't be lost.

Toblie, your picture and poem are awesome -- BOTH of them. I could really feel the guilt...it seems like you reached down in a deep, dark place to pull that out --it's amazing. You portrayed the stage perfectly!


Akasha, I just wanted clarify a little bit: I'm going over some of the things you said earlier in this thread, and I'm a little confused: so basically we don't really have to worry about the pic that much? You're saying the poem is mostly the focus and the picture just needs to kind of portray that, and not necessarily the stage? I'm having such a hard time with both, and I'm not really sure which I should be focusing on the most. Also, are there any limitations on sex, nudity, and violence in the pic or poem?

I honestly can't come up with a THING. I'm just completely blank. Elmo could come up with something better right now than what's been going through my head, and it's completely discouraging. I'm trying to do something different than the bright, pink, fluffy piece of hippo dung I turned in last assignment, but I'm just LOST on this whole thing. I don't have the goth thing down very well at all, I'm afraid, especially with these Stages. :lol:

Oh, and my best to Annette during whatever is going on in her life right now! I hope the light reveals itself sooner rather than later...

Cel- I didn't mean that the pic was unimportant...it's more important than the poem, when it comes down to it. What I meant was, if you're worried that your picture alone doesn't convey the stage, don't worry...just as long as your poem portreys the stages, and your pic portreys the poem....I hope that makes sense...
