Assignment One

In the gothic culture, music is everything! Music started everything! Fashion and attitude are important, but music trumps them.

In this assignment, each contestant will be required to research gothic music, find a song to their liking, and submit a picture that represents the chosen song. Please include the lyrics and, if possible, a link to the song so that everyone can hear it.

Here and here are lists of gothic bands to help you out. These are not comprehensive lists, so if you know of, or discover any underground gothic bands, please feel free to use one of their songs. But, do your research. Just because band members dress gothic doesn't mean they are considered gothic by the culture. For instance, Marilyn Manson is not considered gothic. Gothic music is all about the sound and lyrical content. This is supposed to be a learning experience, so please don't choose a band just because you know it, be adventurous and pick a band you have never heard of.


-Rules-

1. Please only post ONE picture. Collages do not count as one picture.

2. No copying!

3. Editing is allowed, but PLEASE keep it to a MINIMUM!!
Allowed:
a. Stuff like cropping, lighting, making the pic black and white or sepia...stuff that anyone can do with a basic program.
b. Fixing minor things, and I mean minor! Things like filling in a small bald spot that some CC hair gets at certain angles, etc.
Not Allowed:
a. Adding/Transposing backgrounds, sims, or objects. In other words, no mixing and matching between pictures. If it's not in the game or can't be done in the game, think of something else. This competition is designed to push the limits of your creativity, so use it!
b. No adding borders or other effects such as lettering, etc.

4. No changing models. You must use the one you entered! You can, however, change her hair, clothes, makeup, traits, everything but her face/body(including skintone). The only exception to this would be if you are required to portray a dramatic emotion and you just can't seem to get them to look angry, sad, happy, whatever enough, then you are allowed to change their expression in CAS. But please don't go overboard, I'm talking minor changes.

5. Other sims are allowed in the picture, just make sure your sim is the main focus.

6. Remember to keep it Gothic!


Breaking the rules may lead to elimination. You have been warned! I've decided to not disqualify anyone, just eliminate them, when they have broken the rules...unless someone drops out or doesn't show, then they will just have the lowest score. I feel this is fair and gives them a second chance.

Fun fact: Nymphetamine is a combination of two words, Nymphette and Amphetamine.

IM SO EFFING ANGRY! Anytime I press tab in game all my objects dissapear and once I go backt o normal screen they all reappear. This is ruining my picture! im sooo ticked off right now.

Chi!!! Grrrrr! LOL, you might just be joking, but you're also right on the money -- we WOULD still be in Cycle #1 if I had changed my pics! I swear to Will Wright I'm THE most indecisive person I know. Making a decision is torture for me! *noogie*

Dyl -- I'm sorry to hear that! Have you added any new content or mods or anything? Maybe something you have needs updating? Sometimes my Tab just refuses to work for me at all, and I'll have to exit the house, the hood, or sometimes the whole game, then reload it. Have you tried doing that? It could just be some freak glitch. I hope you get it figured out soon!

Thank you Toblie! I personally hate Evanescence, and I forgot to mention to ignore them on the list I gave, because I knew someone was going to do one of their songs. But Vid chose one of their more bearable/gothic sounding songs, so I'm gonna look past my prejudice.

Plus, they're not getting graded on the song itself, but on how well the picture represents the song.

Well I wish u had told that before. I don't have experience with comps and was having problems finding a song. No one really wanted help or was around to help me accept Chi who gave some advice when she didnt have too.I was hoping to get advice just on the song really. I feel like idiot now. This is only first assignment I feel like dropping out. Not only have I screwed up wit pics, I pick the one band u don't like. I'm starting off great already! Well it is what it is. Im' glad u judge on pics. I appreciate you letting me change my pic too. I really do. Tobile u coild of told me. PM me. I wouldnt have been upset.

Aww vid. All that matters is that you represent the song you chose. The song itself doesn't really matter. And your picture is awesome. Don't feel bad. :D

You didn't screw up on anything, and your picture is fine. There is NO need for you to drop out. This competition is about having fun exploring the Goth genre/lifestyle and being creative. Toblie seemed hesitant to say anything, but she wasn't trying to be mean at all. And Kash lives the Goth lifestyle herself, so she definitely knows her stuff -- and like she said, you aren't being graded on the song. Like, if this was your comp and someone chose a rap song (which you've said many times that you hate), you'd probably express how much you disliked the rap song, but if it was one that wasn't TOO bad (in your opinion), then you'd tolerate it. No hard feelings, right? I think this is the same thing.

This is all about having fun and being creative! You're doing fine so far, and you're going to learn SO damn much during the course of all of this, seriously. LOL I know I sure did! So heads up kid! This is all in good fun and friendly competition. No hard feelings young lady!!!

i wouldnt feel bad viddy, you didnt know that about the band! although it doesnt make sense to me, i always thought of evanescence as gothic metal...my itunes classifies them as gothic rock and metal. :/ i wouldnt say they were emo though. panic at the disco is emo for example.

Hi everyone !!

Love the entries very much, I wish that I could say the same for myself.....
Today I took half a day of from work, to recreate my Gwyneth and maybe do something more with the assignment.
So I started recreating, I had some help of the pictures I took when I created her originally and I did write some stuff down to help recreate her. After some 5 hours work, I was very happy with the result, I thought I had her back for about 90%-95%. So I saved her and loaded her to the game.
Than it happened again !!!!!



What have I done to deserve this ?????
I was so very, very, VERY pissed; there just weren't enough words to describe what I felt.
After 15 minutes, I was a bit cooled down and decided to try again, because I knew what I had done to recreate her and decided only to do casual and than see what happened.
So after about 2 hours, I was ready for the second attempt.
Yeah you guessed right....



Unbelievable !! Gwyneth is just NOT going to be !!
What can I say.... just don't know !
I'm so immensely dissapointed, feeling so sad

Akasha, tomorrow I will try to create a totally new Sim, if I can and find the inspiration to do so and if my game will allow me to
When I'm finished I will hopefully send in my new Gothic Sim creation for approval.

Aw eva I'm so sorry. Have you tried taking out the custom skin mod and the custom skins? If you take all of those out and just make her with the base game skin you can get assignment one out of the way and then try to figure out why your skins aren't working.

Yeah, have tried it all, nothing works
And it's still the only Sim I have where this unexplainable happens !! I just can't make her work properly, the game just keeps on messing her up; I'm lost

Aww Vid it's cool, it's not the song choice it's the pic, don't worry about it. Aww I'm sorry I said something. The pic is all that matters. Have fun and yes stick with your pic and song choice.

@Eva- just change her skin tone, then back to the one you had. I had that problem when i deleted a skin tone (non-default) and all went back to the same.
Plus is all ur cc working?
